People Pleasing...

Don’t always stress about what other people think.

1 Samuel 15:24 (NIV)

24 Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned. I violated the Lord’s command and your instructions.
I was afraid of the men and so I gave in to them.

Many times, we subconsciously worry about what other people think. We are fearful of not only what they think but how we may be judged. This affects us and how we are fulfilling God’s plan in our lives.

This is one reason that King Saul lost the throne. God told him to do certain things, however he did them partially. Samuel confronted Saul and Saul admitted, "I disobeyed the Lord's instructions, because I was afraid of the people, so I did what they asked". God had greatness in Saul, and had great things in store. However, one of the issues was that Saul didn't want to disappoint the people.

Saul was worried about what other people thought. For me many times I wanted to be a “people pleaser”. I didn’t want to say no, I didn’t want to correct someone when I knew that they were wrong. I thought that I may upset them and worried that they would get mad and leave the church. What I should have realized much sooner was that I had an obligation to the Lord. As a pastor I must follow God’s lead, and direction. I unlike Saul cannot worry about what people think, I must remain faithful to the Lord. As believers we must understand that we cannot worry about being a people pleaser.

If people cannot understand this…you may have to disappoint a few people.

If someone walks out of your life due to your obedience to God, they didn’t need to be there anyway...
