"A Story of God's Faithfulness"

During the 2020-2021 church year God’s faithfulness was seen countlessly at Emmanuel (ECN). For all of us, ministry over the last year was different, challenging, and we were all faced with obstacles. I had never pastored through a national pandemic before, the people have never been faced with having to briefly close the doors due to a deadly virus plaguing our communities, or when we were able to return having to go to church and not hug, shake hands and to social distance.

Around December, the unthinkable happened. After months of preparations, a safety plan and protocols our church was hit with an outbreak of Covid-19 running through our members following a Sunday morning worship service. Within one week we had 39 members of our congregation all test positive, and displaying various symptoms. As their pastor, I was devastated! I franticly attempted to minister the best I could. Working to figure out new ways to minister to the church and stay in touch when everything that was normal seemed to be a thing of the past.

Everyone seemed to be recovering and had mild symptoms but one, Mr. Bill. Mr. Bill was hospitalized just before Christmas due to his covid exposure. And for the next 16 days it seemed like a fight for his life. As each day passed, what I witnessed was a true story of “God’s faithfulness”. It seemed that man, doctors and nurses, had no real hope in sight. But God! After a little over a two-week fight, ICU, breathing machines, oxygen, and so much more. We received the news that Mr. Bill would be coming home!

During our experiences with Covid at ECN, I was able to face obstacles along with the church. We walked through the valley, but yet did not stay there. I saw a church rise! I witnessed a congregation fall to its knees and lift up one of their own in prayer, and I watched God remain faithful when hope seemed to be lost. God has been good to ECN, and we are forever thankful.
